Play hard. Travel often.

Play hard. Travel often.

If you’re from Birmingham, you’ve probably heard this phrase thrown around quite a bit. You can thank Aviate for that one. Founded just two years ago by Ben Lancaster, Aviate began with an exceedingly simple, yet brilliant idea: put the BHM airport code on a hat. Since then, the brand has turned into a national phenomenon, selling everything from cocktail glasses to socks in over 500 retailers around the country. But Lancaster and his team know that Aviate is much more than just trendy t-shirts, hats and apparel. The brand is built on the idea of community, and their products evoke a feeling of adventure, travel and hometown pride.

"For millions of travelers, the three-letter airplane codes assigned to major cities instantly evoke the memories of journeys past, the anticipation of adventure, and the satisfaction of heading home once business is done."

Aviate is a great example of a brand who understands their market. Their Instagram exceeds 13,000 followers and they are tagged in hundreds of photos daily by customers hoping to make it into their feed. Through partnerships (hello Hangout Fest!) and their popular ambassador program, it's easy to see why they grew so quickly. And while it's exciting to watch the brand take off, their immediate growth also presented its own set of challenges. Aviate came to us needing a website that would reflect a bigger brand presence, and also a more efficient way for users to sort through their inventory.

Most importantly we wanted to simplify the shopping process. We reorganized the products, categorizing each based on state and added a navigation that would point the customer to a specific product in a matter of seconds. That was the easy part. But we wanted to do more than just give the site a makeover. What makes Aviate so unique from other brands is the relationship they have with their customers. Just one look through their Instagram feed and you can see that. You can feel the connection and the community. So instead of just freshening up the website, we brought in different ways to highlight their customers, weaving in Aviate’s personality through every page of the site. Everything from their homepage sliders (photography provided only by bloggers and influencers) to their Instagram feed makes their website truly about the customer and perfectly captures the “community” element behind their brand.
